CONSOLE WAR IS ON: Xbox Series X vs. Playstation5 Specs
2 min readWe finally know just what kind of power we are going to be getting from this upcoming generation of consoles after Sony revealed more info about the PS5 this week.
Both consoles are powerful, to say the least, and they are both fairly equal in terms of that power. You can check out the specific specs for yourself below:
As you can see, both consoles are very similar and are using similar hardware. They both are using solid state drives (SSD’s) they have the same amount of memory, and they use similar components for both CPU and GPU.
GPU
The Xbox Series X is, theoretically, put out a higher resolution and framerate for games. This doesn’t mean the PS5 is weak, however, since the PS5’s GPU runs at a higher rate of 2.23GHz, which is really high for a GPU. It may have fewer CU’s, but what it does have will push out more power than the Xbox’s.
CPU
The Xbox, again, will have a slight advantage with this one, but that ultimately isn’t going to matter a ton. What’s important is that both consoles are using a CPU that is a huge improvement over this past generation’s, which is the important part.
Data Throughput
This is where the PS5 outshines the Series X, as it utilizes the next-gen PCI 4.0 data interface to push through about 5.5GB of information per second. The Series X only pushes through about 2.4GB, which means that the PS5 will be able to stream in almost double the amount of data than the Xbox, resulting in bigger and more detailed games with far shorter loading times.
The fact of the matter is that none of these specs mean a ton; both consoles are going to be powerful, both are going to do what they promise, and it’s going to come down to the games available to play on them. }
Right now, the Xbox launch line-up is much more solid than the PS5’s, but Sony proved this generation just how much effort they put into their exclusives.
Needless to say, the excitement for the consoles continues to build.
