It looks like the new Accolades system that Sony rolled out with the PlayStation 5 is going to be short-lived after all.
As reported by TheSixthAxis, Sony announced that they would be ending the system in the near future since no one is reportedly using it as much as they had wanted.
“The feature hasn’t seen the level of usage we anticipated, so we are refocusing our efforts.”
The system was aimed to be a way to bring a positive environment to online interactivity between players. Players could send one of three accolades to one another: Helpful, Welcoming, or Good Sport. The idea was that after encountering a player in an online game, you could send them the accolade to show reward them for their positive impact. Players were able to see how many accolades they had received by visiting their PSN profiles.
Unfortunately, despite the good intentions of the system, players just didn’t latch onto it and now Sony is pulling the plug.
However, players will at least still have access to the upcoming PlayStation Stars system to look forward to.
