Ubisoft Suing Apple and Google Over Rainbow Six Siege Clone
1 min readUbisoft is suing Apple and Google over a mobile Rainbow Six Siege clone that has been released on iOS and Android.
The game in question is called Area F2, which was developed by Alibaba’s Ejoy.com. Bloomberg released a report that got into the details of the lawsuit, in which Ubisoft claims Area F2 copies “virtually every aspect” of Rainbow Six Siege, saying that the operator select screen and final scoring screen are both particularly derivative.
The game has millions of downloads so far and advertises itself as the “first CQB FPS on mobile”, offering multiple agents to play as, destructible environments, and equipment. If you think that sounds familiar, you’re not alone.
Looking at the gameplay, it is easy to see the resemblance to Ubisoft’s tactical shooter, and fans of Siege should feel right at home playing it.
Ubisoft has reportedly reached out to both Apple and Google about the game, but neither company has removed it from their stores.
We will see what happens if the lawsuit gains traction, and whether or not Apple or Google will intervene.
