Xbox Live Gold Not Planned to End

Business As Usual
Despite the rumors that have been circulating that Microsoft would be ending the Xbox Live Gold service, the company has said that there are “no plans” to end it. The rumors began after the option to buy 12-month subscription was taken away.
Microsoft spoke with The Verge, saying: “We have no plans to discontinue Xbox Live Gold at this time. It is an important part of gaming on Xbox today, and will continue to be in the future.”

The Multiplayer Experience
Gold is the service that gives access to online multiplayer on Xbox consoles, as well as free, monthly games. The disappearance of the 12-month option and the recent news that Halo Infinite multiplayer would be free-to-play fueled speculation that the service was being discontinued. That doesn’t seem to be the case.
Their statement also states:
“There are no changes being made to the experience of the service or Xbox Live Gold,” which means we shouldn’t expect Microsoft to pivot Gold into a slightly different service. It would be easy to speculate that perhaps free-to-play multiplayer may not require a Gold subscription, but that seems to not be the current case. All that we can say at the moment is that Xbox Live Gold will continue, but paid for via monthly or 3-month payment plans.”
Xbox Live Gold is Here to Stay
So it looks like Xbox’s online multiplayer is going to charge on as usual, despite these changes. The good news for PC players is that Microsoft doesn’t require a Gold subscription to play on its PC games, so you can enjoy Halo Infinite for free.
