Apple Won’t Have to Budge Yet

In the ongoing legal battle between Apple and Epic Games, Apple has earned an early victory as the court has ruled that the company does not have to “immediately reinstate” Fortnite on its App Store.

A Small Victory for Apple

As Bloomberg reports, U.S. District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers made the ruling on Monday night. However, it wasn’t a total loss for Epic Games, as they were granted their request for “a temporary order blocking Apple from limiting the game developer’s ability to provide Unreal Engine, key graphics technology, for other apps.”

Rogers was clear that the case was not a “slam dunk” for either company and that this ruling will not “dictate the final outcome of the litigation.” Another hearing is going to be held on September 28th to talk about what a longer-term solution will be.

Part of a Bigger Issue

This entire issue stems from Epic Games implementing a new price for V-Bucks and a new direct payment method that would get around Apple and Google’s “exorbitant” app store fees.

Soon after they put this system in, Fortnite was removed from the Apple App Store and Google Play store, which then prompted Epic to file a complaint against both of the companies.

S0me Are In Support of It All

Microsoft spoke out in support of Epic Games, saying that “ensuring that Epic has access to the latest Apple technology is the right thing for gamer developers & gamers”, as the Unreal Enging is widely used by developers around the world.

The decision is a bummer for players of the game on iOS, as the Chapter 2: Season 4 will launch of August 27th and it will lock out all iPhone and iPad players since they won’t be able to update their games.
