Call of Duty Seasons Have Been Delayed

2 min read
Activision has announced the delay of the new seasons for all of its Call of Duty games in response to the George Floyd protests.

Activision has decided to suspend the new seasons for its three Call of Duty games in response to the ongoing protests over the death of George Floyd.

The official Call of Duty Twitter account posted the announcement, saying that it is “not the time” and moving the seasons for Modern Warfare, Warzone, and Mobile to a later date.

The tweet goes on to say:

“Right now it’s the time for those speaking up for equality, justice and change to be seen and heard. We stand alongside you.”

There are no official dates for when the seasons will release now. Modern Warfare‘s season was set to drop on June 3rd, with Mobile also scheduled for this week. Activision has offered no other information about the release.

The announcement came with its fair share of criticisms, however, despite the good intentions behind it. Many people view this as a hypocrisy, given Activision’s controversial response to the Hong Kong protests last year. During that time, they banned a Hong Kong-based Hearthstone player who stated a phrase used by the protestors on a stream.

This decision was met with incredible backlash and has continued to tarnish Activision’s reputation since, as evident by the reaction to today’s announcement. Many are wondering if this announcement was just a move for good publicity, instead of a genuine announcement of solidarity.
