Lords of the Fallen 2 has moved on to its third developer and is set to launch on PC and next-generation consoles.

A press release from PCGamesN says that the sequel is now being developed by a new studio called Hexworks. The studio is made up of a “veteran staff with AAA game development experience” and was opened by publisher, CI Gamesin Bucharest and Barcelona earlier this year.

The original game was developed by Deck13 and released in 2014. The studio was working on Lords of the Fallen 2 for awhile before moving on to work on both The Surge games. The project was then taken over by Defiant Studios in 2018, who scrapped Deck13’s work and started from scratch. Now, it is with Hexworks.

The press release also says there will be a tonal shift for the game “from the original’s power fantasy to a dark fantasy.” It also says that the game will adapt features that Soulsborne fans will enjoy. The press release also says that Hexworks has been working hard for most of 2020, making significant progress on the game.

The original game was met with some positive reception and quickly became a cult hit with a loyal fanbase. This news is certainly sad for those fans, as it means the development on the game will still be awhile, but it at least shows the game will come out eventually.
