The Last of Us II Not Releasing in Middle East
2 min readNo Good News Lately for Naughty Dog
For reasons that are yet unknown, it seems that Naughty Dog’s newest title will not be released in some parts of the world. Even though it is one of this year’s most anticipated titles, the Middle East does not seem to care for it.
Apparently if you are living within the United Arab Emirates, you are unable to access the game, preorder etc. Leading some Reddit users/gamers to the conclusion that Naughty Dog may be getting the cold shoulder.
Current working theory is that due to the game’s more expressive look at LGBT relationships may be the cause. Earlier in 2020 the Middle East banned Pixar’s Onward from being viewed in theaters for just that reason.
If you think that’s untrue, TLOU’s main character Ellie is a lesbian. The game itself centers around Ellie avenging the death of her wife and coming across another character doing the same. While it is a very progressive attempt at storytelling for gaming, in some countries they dislike it.
Some people were theorizing that it is due to the content underneath the game’s M for Mature rating. Which will include graphic violence, profanity, sexual content and nudity. However, other titles like GTA and Cyberpunk 2077 are still available. That puts a little bit of a damper on that theory.

Whatever the case may be, it looks like gamers are just going to have to wait to purchase the game. But, it does look like if it ever comes to the Middle East, it will be strongly altered.
