The long-awaited fourth entry in the Skate franchise is still a ways off but we now know what the game’s official title is, and it’s rather simple.
As announced as part of the Full Circle The Board Room update, the game is going to be called skate., and even more, will be free-to-play to all players on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. The game will also be featuring cross-play support so that you can play with your friends, no matter what platform each person is on.
Their reasoning for the simplistic title of the game is because Full Circle is planning to have the game live and evolve for a long time. So as of now, there won’t be a Skate 5 and so on, but rather, a single game that updates, changes, and evolves with time, very much like what Bungie is going with Destiny 2.
Full Circle explains the free-to-play model of the game in further detail, sharing their four rules for how the model will function:
- No Pay to Win
- No Map Areas Locked Behind Paywall
- No Paid Loot Boxes
- No Paid Gameplay Advantages
That’s just about what every player wants out of their free-to-play game and indicates that what micro-transactions may exist within the game, they will most likely be purely cosmetic with no effect on the gameplay.
Players were being recruited back in June to help test the game out in its “pre-pre-pre-alpha”, which shows how committed Full Circle is to making sure the game meets fans’ expectations. It also shows just how far off the game is from release.
As of now, skate. does not have an official release date or even a release window. We will just have to patiently wait for more news to release eventually.
